While the new Volvo V60 is heading to the 2018
Geneva Motor Show for its public debut, the saloon version, dubbed S60, will
hang back until this summer when it will be unveiled in South Carolina. Like
the new V60, the S60 will also ride on the automaker’s Scalable Product
Architecture, utilizing the same engines as its more family oriented sibling.
This means we can expect a 2.0-liter diesel unit, as well as T5 and T6 petrol
options.
Units such as the T6 and T8 plug-in hybrids are
aimed at more eco-friendly buyers. The former will produce 340 PS and 590 Nm of torque, whereas the latter is good for 390 PS and 640 Nm, in the V60.
The V60 and S60 should be largely identical. This rendering from designer
Kleber Silva gives us some idea of what to expect this summer, and as long as
Volvo doesn’t ditch the muscular design elements, this is what the S60 should
look like, at least from a front 3/4 angle.
The actual rear end is a different story and we’re
very curious to see what sort of taillight design will be implemented. In this
particular case, the light units are surprisingly large and there’s quite a bit
of room between them – it stands out like a sore thumb. Other than that, it’s a
fairly dynamic design.
