Honda has its hands in everything from airplanes to
automobiles but one of the company’s more popular divisions is its lawn and
garden unit. To help promote the company’s lineup of tractors and mowers, the
company worked with their British Touring Car Championship partner, Team
Dynamics, to create the Mean Mower. The high-performance lawn tractor was
unveiled in 2013 and it featured a 1.0-liter V-twin motorcycle engine sourced
from a Honda VTR Firestorm.
The tractor was also equipped with an assortment of
other upgrades and this enabled the model to produce 109 hp. While that
doesn’t sound like much, it enabled the Mean Motor to set a Guinness World
Record for being the fastest lawn mower. During a run at the DIADA Proving
Ground in Spain, the mower was able to hit speeds of 187 km/h which
was almost 48 km/h faster than the previous record.
Honda’s record was recently broken so the company
has created an all-new Mean Mower called the Mk. 2. Billed as a successor to
the original model, the latest mower will be powered by a 1.0-liter
four-cylinder engine sourced from the CBR1000R Fireblade. It produces 189 hp and 114 Nm of torque.
Honda says the Mk. 2 is absolutely “wild” and will
be able to hit a top speed in excess of 215 km/h. That’s not too
shabby as the mower is faster than some automobiles. The mower will be driven
by Jessica Hawkins who is a former British karting champion and competes in the
Mini Challenge for Excelr8 Motorsport.
