With the Hyundai i30 N already on the market, the
Korean automaker has a sloping-roofed version of the hot hatch, seen here
testing in cold weather. Here, the car’s bonnet and headlamps remain shrouded,
though the lower air intakes can be seen to sport a similar shape to those on
the production hatchback.
The rear portion of the Fastback’s bodywork is
concealed as well, though while the upper section could be largely standard Fastback,
the lower section features a deeper rear bumper with twin exhaust outlets. The
i30 N hatchback diffuser detailing could make it to this rear bumper
eventually, as well.
Powertrain for the i30 N Fastback can be expected to
be the same as that in the hatchback, namely the 2.0 litre Theta T-GDI
turbocharged engine producing up to 275 PS at 6,000 rpm and 353 Nm of torque at
1,450 to 4,000 rpm. These output figures are from the higher of two available
states of tune, the milder being a 250 PS variant. It remains to be seen if the
i30 N Fastback will feature both in its line-up.
So far, there is just one transmission layout, which
is a six-speed manual gearbox driving the front wheels. The Performance
Package-equipped i30 N hatch gets 19-inch wheels compared to the 18-inchers on
the standard version; brakes are also uprated for the former, and as with the
powertrain, it remains to be seen if the choice will be offered for the i30 N
Fastback.
Safety systems, can be expected to follow
in the hatchback’s footsteps, where Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and a
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) are included. Though unconfirmed, the N model
theme can be expected to continue into the interior, where a G-Force instrument
offers live performance tracking including lap times and acceleration times,
while a five-inch or eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
with Qi-standard inductive smartphone charging round up the infotainment suite.
