We’ve seen the Hyundai i30 N and the Veloster N from the Korean carmaker’s N performance sub-brand, and an SUV will be joining the N family soon. Hyundai’s global head of sales, Byung Kwon Rhim, said that the “Tucson is under development, and other models will come after that,” when questioned about the expansion of the N sub-brand, Auto Express reports.

The report says that the hot Tucson is in the early stages of development, and is unlikely to surface for at least a year. Last year, Albert Biermann, Hyundai’s head of performance development and high performance vehicles, talked about the possibility of a hot Tucson, which is a strong seller for the brand in the UK and Europe.

Hyundai can easily drop the i30 N Performance Package’s 2.0 litre turbo engine with 275 PS and 353 Nm into the boosted Tucson, which can then rival the just-unveiled 300 PS Seat Cupra Ateca. Of course, a Hyundai Tucson N would have to be proven at the race track that gives the brand its name, the Nurburgring.
