Designed by Chinese company IAT, the Karlmann King is meant
to offer you an exclusive experience unlike any other, which is why it would
cost you US$ 2 million to buy one in base form, or some US$ 3.8 million if you go
nuts with the customization options, which include armored bodywork.
While it may take after stealth fighters, there
really isn’t anything stealthy about this massive SUV. In fact, it’s so big,
they had to use a Ford F-550 in order to lay the groundwork – this includes the
Ford’s 6.8-liter V10 engine, although it’s said to have been massaged to
produce some 400 HP.
Even with all that muscle, the most you’ll be doing
in this truck is 140 km/h, which is slow even by Back to the Future
standards. Of course, the fact that it’s 2.5 meters wide and weighs
six tonnes is what contributes to its top speed being so limited.
It is inside however where the King really comes to
life, with its ambient lighting, retractable widescreen TV, refrigerator,
Nespresso machine and electrically operated pop-out tables. It’s beyond any
other SUV we can think of, and few luxury limos look anywhere close to this
“rich” on the inside, unless they’ve also been tuned.
Buyers can also opt for a
six-seat, six-door version, although you’ll need to move quickly since IAT will
only build nine total units.
