The Koenigsegg Regera may have been first presented
in production-spec two years ago but the Swedish marque has still brought along
two examples to the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. This particular one, finished in
all shades of blue, is the most head-turning.
A large proportion of the body
is painted a light shade of blue. If the whole car was finished like this, it
would be a standout. However, Koenigsegg has decided to take things further and
finished large sections of the exterior in blue-tinted carbon fiber, making for
a two-tone theme somewhat reminiscent of Bugatti Veyrons of the past.
Evidently, the person who ordered this Regera really
likes blue because things don’t end with the exterior. As a matter of fact, the
vast majority of the cabin is bathed in turquoise materials. Driving in direct
sunlight, we imagine it to be almost blinding.
What makes the Regera so unique from any other car
before it is the powertrain. At the heart of the hypercar is a
twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired to an electric motor and battery pack
developed by Rimac. The result is over 1500 hp.
Also special with the Regera is its gearbox. In place of a traditional transmission is the firm’s Direct Drive
system. To ensure drivers still get the thrills they’d expect of an ordinary
transmission, there is a clutch-slip mechanism that uses a hydraulic coupling
to convert torque at medium/high speeds. This provides the impression of
downshifting.
