The Geneva Motor Show always holds plenty of fresh
metal not only from the world’s automakers, but from tuners as well. Like
Brabus, for example, which has a whole raft of customized and enhanced vehicles
in store for this year’s show. Chief among them are two new versions of the
Brabus 800, both based on the Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic+: one coupe, and one
sedan.
Both pack Affalterbach’s latest 4.0-liter twin-turbo
V8. But instead of 603 horsepower, Brabus has massaged the engine to deliver
789 – 800 by metric standards, or 588 kW. Torque has also been increased to
1,000 Nm.
Channeled to all four wheels through a nine-speed
automatic transmission and AMG-tuned 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, that’s said to be
enough to send either version to 100 km/h in just 3.1
seconds before topping out at an electrically limited 300 km/h.
Of course Brabus didn’t just tinker with the engine
and leave it at that. It also fitted a full aero kit, variable exhaust, dropped
suspension, and bigger wheels. The tuner offers alloys for the S-Class ranging
from 18 inches to 22, but both show cars are fitted with 21-inch rims: Platinum
Edition monoblock alloys, to be specific.
Both show cars also demonstrate Brabus’ propensity
for upgrading Mercedes interiors. The sedan’s is done up in black with blue
piping and gray stitching, the coupe’s in a natural shade of tan with quilted
stitching and black piping.
The pair of tuned S63s won’t be the only machines
Brabus will showcase at the Palexpo this year, though. It’s also lined up an
E63 sedan with the same powertrain, and a V-Class van outfitted as a business
shuttle. And through its Startech brand, it’s demonstrating its capabilities on
British vehicles like the Aston Martin DB11 and the new Range Rover Velar.
