Mercedes appears to be really serious about the
upcoming GLB compact SUV, which has a very good chance of getting AMG
performance models. According to AutoNews, these versions of the boxy-looking
compact SUV “are likely” – but that’s all they have to say about that.
Still, if it were to follow in the footsteps of the
new generation A-Class, then we expect two AMG derivatives: the GLB35 and the
GLB45. The first one will probably have around 340 horsepower, whereas the
second will serve as the range-topping member in the GLB range and boast more
than 400 hp.
The premium compact SUV, which is expected to act as
a roomier alternative to the next-gen GLA, will probably gain a seven-seat
variant as well. However, it’s not clear yet whether the three-row model will
be offered in the United States, too, alongside the five-seater, which should
go on sale in the second half of next year.
Production of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is said to
commence at a new Daimler-Nissan joint-venture factory in Mexico. The facility
will also be in charge of putting together the upcoming A-Class Sedan, which
shares the same platform with the rest of the brand’s new compact models.
