The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the quintessential
example of a luxury vehicle. While there’s a lot to like with the S-Class, the
thing that could possibly stop someone from purchasing the machine is space. That’s
something that OKCU Individual Automotive Concepts has remedied with the
Mercedes V-Class Signature Edition.
Making its debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show,
OKCU’s V-Class Signature Edition is an extremely limited – only 10 will be
built – land yacht that offers consumers with an alternative to flying. It’s
also an alternative to anyone that wants to feel like they own a private jet
without actually having to own one.
OKCU claims that it took 3,350 hours to go from a
regular Mercedes V-Class to the Signature Edition. And the limited-edition
vehicle is at the top of the brand’s food chain. Yes, it’s even more luxurious
than the Elegance Edition that we saw last November.
The interior of the van features leather upholstery,
which the automaker claims is up to Rolls-Royce’s standards, hand-crafted Wenge
wood, handmade chrome accents, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. That
stuff doesn’t sound out of the ordinary for a luxury vehicle.
The Signature Edition boasts a console storage for his and her Hermes
perfume, a special console for a watch winder, tie/scarf, and sunglasses, and a
mother-of-pearl side wall insignia with 24 karat gold.
Every controllable component in the vehicle, which
includes the partition wall screen divider, side tables, seat massagers, and
leg rests, can be controlled with an iPad. The van also features a champagne
cooler, mini bar, and espresso machine for those long rides where you’re bound
to get thirsty. The best part of the Signature Edition is
the ceiling that’s embroidered with a slathering of micro-LED lights that are
meant to evoke a “dark summer midnight full of stars.” It’s all very
Rolls-Royce Phantom-esque.
None of this sounds or looks cheap, but OKCU hasn’t
released pricing for the van yet. Still, if you’re not interested in having a
flashy Rolls-Royce or a Bentley, this van is low-key luxury.
