Porsche’s classic 356 was the automaker’s first
production car and came in four different versions, from the “pre-A” to the A,
B and the C, the latter representing the last revision the company rolled out.
This, however, is not a mid to late-50s 356A Speedster; in fact, it’s a
replica, albeit a very good one, built on a shortened and reinforced 1964
Beetle chassis supporting a vintage Speedster’s body.
Powering the car is a 1.9-liter flat-four mated to a
4-speed manual transmission that’s putting out 153 horsepower, according to the
Bring a Trailer ad. If true, that means it packs more power than the original
car.
Other features include custom front brakes, Nardo
Gray exterior, red leather interior, vintage Heuer stopwatches, a Budnik
steering wheel, custom door panels with wood pockets, handmade pedals, a black
Mamba shifter, Porsche 550-style handbrake and a handmade gas tank resembling a
suitcase for the “frunk”.
An Alpine CD player with Bluetooth is also installed
as a hidden feature, working alongside a McIntosh amplifier and a JL Audio
subwoofer. The ad states that building this car cost US$ 100,000 and took 3,000
hours of labor. Officially, it’s titled as a 1964 VW, and has just 2,300 km on the clock.
