When Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus unveiled the
SCG004S last November, it stated that it would be powered by a twin-turbo
5.0-liter V8 with 650 hp. However, company boss Jim Glickenhaus revealed to
Autocar that his new supercar will use the 3.8-liter twin-turbo VR38DETT V6 of
the Nissan GT-R after all.
It might have lost two cylinders on the way to
production, but the SCG004S will deliver 690 hp (up 40 hp than originally
announced) in entry-level guise – and, if customers are not satisfied with
that, even more.
Unlike the GT-R, which is offered exclusively with a
paddle-shift dual-clutch transmission, the SCG004S will be available with a
six-speed manual gearbox, while an auto ‘box will be an option.
Glickenhaus says he’s opted for the GT-R’s engine
because it is lighter than the V8 and “practically bulletproof.” That’s
probably why the SCG004S racing variant that will compete in the 2019
Nurburgring 24 Hours will also use a GT-R engine.
Testing of the SCG004S will commence in the coming
months before customer examples are delivered before the end of the year.
Prices start at US$ 400,000 and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus intends on producing
up to 250 examples annually.
