The Toyota Yaris was recently spied testing in India
yet again, courtesy RushLane. The new sedan had its local debut just weeks ago,
at Auto Expo 2018. Toyota will launch the Yaris in India as a model positioned
above the Toyota Etios. Also known as Toyota Yaris Ativ and Toyota Vios in
other markets, the new sedan measures 4.4 metres in length, 1.7 metres in width
and 1.5 metres in height. Its wheelbase spans a length of 2.6 metres.
Toyota will offer the Toyota Yaris in India with a
1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission or
a continuously variable transmission. This engine is expected to produce 105
bhp and 140 Nm of torque. A diesel engine isn’t planned for the initial stage.
Last week it was reported that Toyota may not introduce a diesel engine even at
a later stage.
The Toyota Yaris will slot in as a premium product
in Toyota’s Indian line-up. LED light guides, LED DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels,
tail lamps with LED light guiding, a Shark-fin antenna, power driver’s seat,
4.2-inch MID, automatic climate control and roof-mounted air vent with ambient
illumination are some of its main features.
Toyota has equipped the car with a plethora of
safety features, including 7 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD,
Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), VSC, HSC, front and rear parking
sensors, rear camera and automatic headlamps to name a few.
The Toyota Yaris’ prices could start at around INR
8-9 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to around INR 13-14 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota
will start accepting bookings for customers from April this year. Reports say
that the market launch will take place in May.
