India Yamaha Motors (IYM) has launched the Yamaha
Cygnus Ray-ZR in four new colours. The front drum brake model costs INR 53,451,
and the disc variant costs INR 55,898. Both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
The new colours are Armada Blue, Matt Green,
Maverick Blue, and Rooster Red. The disc variant is available in all the four
colours, while the drum version comes in Matt Green and Maverick Blue. The new
colours add to the already-existing Dark Knight version, which comes with a
front disc brake, apart from exclusive colour scheme. Mechanically, there are
no changes to the scooter.
The design of the Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR realizes the
Real Boys’ Scooter concept, complete with a sculpted front mask, layered straight
lines, and a sporty grab handle at the rear. The scooter
has a 21-litre under seat storage; hook below the seat; apron pockets, and a
key shutter locking system. The instrumentation is analogue. Powering the
Ray-ZR is a 113 cc SOHC engine with air cooling and carburettor. The Blue Core
technology in the engine helps achieving a claimed efficiency figure of 66
km/l under standard test conditions. The engine pumps out 7.2 PS of power at
7,500 rpm, and 8.1 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm.
The scooter rides on telescopic front fork, and a
single shock absorber at the rear. Brakes include drum brakes on both ends,
with a front disc as an option. The 10-inch alloy wheels are shod with
90-section tubeless tyres. Competitors of the Ray-ZR include the Honda Dio,
Hero Maestro Edge, and TVS Jupiter.
