The first-ever Ford F-150 equipped with a Power
Stroke diesel engine will offer an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city and 25 mpg
combined. Ford claims that these figures are the highest EPA-estimated ratings
available in a full-size pickup truck right now.
In addition to the F-150’s leading fuel economy
ratings, the diesel-powered truck also offers best-in-class diesel power as the
3.0-liter Power Stroke unit produces 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque.
The new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine was
designed by the same team behind the Super Duty’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8. It
features a variable geometry turbocharger and common-rail injection and offers
peak torque from just 1,750 rpm. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard
fit.
Towing is rated at 11,400 pounds while payload is
2,020 pounds in the XL and XLT fleet models and 1,940 pounds in the retail
ones. Ford says that the first F-150 Power Stroke models will begin shipping to
dealers in May.
