Maruti Suzuki is readying a
facelift of the Ciaz for the Indian market. The 2018 Maruti Ciaz won’t just get
cosmetic updates, but will also bring with a major change in terms of the
powertrains on offer. Autocar India reports that the sedan will get a new 1.5 L
petrol engine which debuted on the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga launched in Indonesia
earlier this month.
The Maruti Ciaz facelift will
swap the current 1.4 L Petrol for a bigger 1.5 L K15B unit. This engine is
likely to have power and torque outputs of around 104 PS and 138 Nm. In
contrast, the current 1.4 L mill develops 92 PS and 130 Nm. This engine does duty
on the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga in Indonesia and comes paired with either a 5-speed
manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
A report from March claims that
the 1.3 L DDiS 200 diesel will be replaced by a new 1.5 L diesel unit developed
in-house by Suzuki. Although there is no word on its exact specifications yet,
the new engine could have a power output of around 100 PS and torque in the
200-250 Nm region.
The 2018 Maruti Ciaz will get
minor updates to the exterior. Spy shots suggest there will be a new, wider
radiator grille, a sharper looking front bumper, tweaked tail lamps, and
updated rear bumper. Maruti may add LED DRLs/pilot lamps as well. Inside, there
is likely to be an introduction of new upholstery and trim.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the new
Ciaz in August, reportedly. As is the case with the current model, it is
expected to arrive with a sub- INR 8 lakhs (ex-showroom) starting price. The
Ciaz now has a new rival in India in the form of Toyota Yaris that launched a
few days back.
