The 2019 Mercedes-Benz B-Class
prototype looks a lot less shy, ditching the plastic cladding around
the front, giving us a much appreciated sneak peak at its grille design. On top
of that, we also get to see the interior, which features Mercedes‘ latest
infotainment system, the same one that you’d find inside a new-generation
A-Class hatchback.
The styling of the all-new B-Class is visibly
sleeker than the one found on its predecessor, aka the current model. Where the
2018 B-Class looks sort of like a compressed version of the now-discontinued
R-Class, the 2019 model seems to be more of a bigger A-Class, its platform
sibling.
The grille is not
necessarily unlike the current one, although we imagine the car to look more
aggressive due to its more angular headlights and pointy taillights – probably
similar to the ones on the new A-Class, though bulkier.
Like the second-generation B-Class, the all-new
third-gen model will focus on practicality and clever storage solutions, while
also boasting modern safety and convenience features. Aesthetically, we see a
shorter center console than on the new A-Class, with everything else appearing
to be the similar in design and function.
Look close at the spy images and you’ll notice
two distinctive interiors, one with a full length infotainment screen, and one
with a split screen design (two 7-inch displays), probably reserved for the
entry-level versions.
As for the car’s engine range, expect to see certain
petrol and diesel A-Class units transition up to the all-new B-Class, although
we wouldn’t hold our breath for anything with an AMG badge. Still, some sort of
electrified power train should join the range at some point.
Mercedes could unveil the 2019 B-Class either later
this year, or sometime next year, with the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer as its
sole premium competitor.
