The Renault Clio IV has been around since 2012 and
is certainly due for an update, especially since other rivals like
the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza have all moved on to a new
generation. Design-wise, the new model appears to be a downsized version of the Megane IV
hatchback, albeit with a few unique touches.
While the wide front grille and central badge are
similar to those on the Megane IV, the headlamps look a little bit more
aggressive and gives the small hatch an “angry” look. Said headlamps also don’t
appear to come with C-shaped LED 3D-effect light guides, although the camouflage
could mask that detail. Other visible aspects of the front bumper include the
lower intake as well as a pair of reasonably-sized fog lamps. Compared to the
current Clio, the new car appears to have a shorter nose as well.
The profile doesn’t look to have changed much from
the current car either, with cues like a sloping roofline, raked windscreen and
high-mounted door handles continuing to be retained. The heavily-covered rear
makes it hard to see if the taillights have changed much, but they look to be
two-piece units as before and could be smaller in size. The reverse camera
looks to retain its position in the middle of the Renault diamond logo.
The new Clio will be based on the CMF-B platform,
and will reportedly also share design elements with the SYMBIOZ concept. A
variety of petrol engines will be offered including the new 1.3 litre turbo
unit plus other possibilities
like diesel and mild hybrid powertrains. Reports indicate an unveiling for the
Clio V will take place at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October.
