A less camouflaged prototype of the upcoming Ford
Mustang Shelby GT500 was spotted doing some testing, giving us a first chance
to spot the new features of the long-awaited 700+hp version. Unlike previous
sightings, the test car does away with the heavy vinyl cover, featuring a complete body wrap that leaves little to
our imagination.
Following Ford’s short teaser video, the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 shows its revised front fascia that features a more
aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes and a new bonnet, complete with
a bulge in the middle that’s also louvered.
The rest of the body features wider fenders, deeper
side sills and winglets, a rear diffuser as well as a massive front lip.
Aerodynamics will be a crucial part of the most powerful street-legal Ford ever
produced, with the finished Shelby GT500 to also get a rear wing, as seen in
the aforementioned teaser video.
Under the bulging bonnet we expect a supercharged
5.2-liter V8 engine that will produce over 700hp, making the new Mustang Shelby
GT500 even more powerful than the exotic GT supercar, which offers just 647hp.
It’s also expected to offer a manual gearbox, which in combination with the
performance on tap is something that deserves celebration from the hardcore
enthusiasts.
The king of the Mustang range is also expected to
feature a series of innovative track technologies and the right hardware to
help it maintain its composure, whether you drive it on the track or public
roads.
Ford’s Camaro ZL1 nemesis is expected to debut
sometime later this year, either as a 2019MY or a 2020MY, but official details
are still limited.
