The fourth generation Suzuki Jimny has been spotted
testing out in the open for almost a year now. According to a recent report
from Autocar, it will go on sale in early 2019, just a few months after its
rumored presentation at the 2018 Tokyo Motor Show.
The Japanese automaker has already pulled the plug
on the current iteration to make room for its successor, and it seems that less
than 200 units are currently found in showrooms. The 2020 Suzuki Jimny will keep its rugged and
boxy-looking exterior, offering improved handling and a more modern cabin.
The ladder-on-frame chassis, combined with the
AllGrip Pro all-wheel drive system should make this tiny vehicle quite a joy on
challenging terrains. Its footprint might increase a bit from the current
generation, which is only 135 mm longer than a Volkswagen Up!, and it’s
likely that the automaker will focus on improving legroom for rear passengers.
The 2020 Suzuki Jimny is believed to be powered by
the Baleno’s turbocharged 1.0-liter petrol engine, with 110 hp. It might also
gain a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter unit, for the base model.
