The Aston Martin Rapide is getting long-in-tooth but
the company is trying to keep interest alive by introducing a high-performance
AMR variant. Previewed by a concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Rapide
will become the second model from the company’s new AMR sub-brand. It follows
in the footsteps of the Vantage AMR which was introduced last summer.
As you can see in the latest spy photos, the Rapide
AMR has been equipped with an aggressive body kit that includes a new front fascia
with a sportier grille. The model has also a front splitter, aerodynamic side
skirts, a ventilated hood and 21-inch alloy wheels.
The unique styling cues continue at the rear as
designers installed a unique bumper, a rear spoiler and a conservative
diffuser. The dual exhaust system on the prototype is only temporary as the
company has already confirmed the production model will have a quad setup.
Aston has said the interior will be “equally
breathtaking” as drivers can expect to find Alcantara upholstery and carbon
fiber trim. The concept also suggested the production model will have carbon
fiber front seats and Lime Green accents inside and out.
The road-going model will have a
naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 that produces 600 PS. This
is a significant increase over the 560 PS Rapide S and the
company has previously said it will enable the Rapide AMR to be the “world’s
fastest and most thrilling four-door, capable of 337 km/h.
Production will be limited to 210 units and Aston
Martin CEO Andy Palmer has already confirmed there will be an AMR version of
every model in the Aston Martin range including the extreme Valkyrie.
