Distributor of Luxe Motorhomes & Caravans in Malaysia, WTA Ventures has handed over the first unit of its Benimar Mileo 282 caravan to its customer, which is the longest of the 13 Mileo-series caravan models which have been earmarked for the Malaysian market.

This home on wheels wears a price of RM 644,111 on-the-road without insurance, and was delivered yesterday to Albert Chew, a former pilot. Compared to the Mileo 313 which was introduced to the Malaysian market last April, the Mileo 282 seen here offers more capacious accommodation from its 7,390 mm overall length (that’s two Perodua Axias nose-to-tail); the Mileo 313 measured 5,950 mm in length.

This gives the Mileo 282 room for four occupants, with two beds measuring 1,400 mm by 1,900 mm. Additional space in this caravan makes room for two lounge spaces; one with a table and a sofa in the middle of the caravan, and another, more relaxed area at the rear.

The Mileo 282 is also equipped with a larger and more comfortable washroom over that in the Mileo 313, while other conveniences here include a refrigerator with freezer, an oven and a stove for food preparation and storage. The Mileo range of motorhomes are built with a floor structure made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) and PVC, while the interior is constructed to be 99% wood-free.

Further conveniences include roof-mounted air-conditioning, LED television, DVD player and satellite TV reception. Besides mains electricity, the Mileo 282 also comes with a 150-watt solar panel mounted on its roof for auxiliary power. A manually-operated roof awning is also fitted as standard.

All Benimar Mileo motorhomes are built upon the third-generation Fiat Ducato light commercial vehicle chassis, and is powered by a four-cylinder Fiat Mulitjet 2.3 litre turbodiesel engine with 150 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Built to United Kingdom specifications for the Malaysian market, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has classified the Benimar Mileo range of caravans as MPVs, and therefore can be operated by drivers with a valid ‘D’ licence. Presumably, owners will want to escape city traffic in these machines; there are currently two caravan parks in Johor – one each in Desaru and Pontian.

Distributor WTA Ventures is also in talks with several state governments, including those of Pahang and Johor for the further development of caravan park facilities, while already having gained an agreement with the local management of Gopeng and Cameron Highlands for the construction of more caravan parks.
