The upcoming BMW X7 is one of several new models
that Munich is introducing this year, and it aims to push the X line of SUVs
towards the upper echelons of luxury. These latest spyshots give us our best
look yet at the full-sized seven-seater, including some of its interior.
The latter incorporates many of the elements seen on
the Concept Z4 and 8 Series, such as the horizontal air vents with silver trim,
newer, more modern switchgear and a new digital instrument display bordered by
C-shaped dials – including a reverse-direction rev counter. There’s also a
small gearlever sitting atop a gloss black control panel on the centre console.
Appearing to be fitted with the M Sport kit, the
exterior is as we’ve seen in previous teasers, with slim headlights – featuring
three-dimensional hexagonal daytime running lights – flanking a massive double
kidney grille. The usual M Sport’s large air intakes feature underneath,
replacing the slim full-width inlet and vertical Air Curtain intakes of the
standard variant.
Moving to the rear, there are broad L-shaped tail
lights and a pair of sizeable exhaust pipes. It’s difficult to overstate how
huge this flagship SUV will be – the first-generation X3 helpfully parked next
to it at the lights isn’t a small car by any means, and yet it’s absolutely
dwarfed by the X7.
The X7 will ride
on the modular CLAR architecture that already underpins the G30 5 Series and
G12 7 Series. Expect a range of six- and eight-cylinder engines to power it
(including a 456 hp 4.4 litre turbo petrol V8 in the xDrive50i), along with the
6.6 litre twin-turbo V12 from the M760Li. An iPerformance plug-in hybrid should
also be in the works, as previewed by the Concept X7.
