Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) has announced the introduction of the Ford Ranger 2.2L WildTrak in Malaysia. The new Ranger T6 facelift 4×4 High Rider variant becomes the second WildTrak in the model line-up, joining the 3.2L WildTrak that has been around for a while.

This isn’t just a dress-up job with Wildtrak-derived items. It features all the equipment and specs seen on the 3.2L WildTrak, which means that active safety items such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Aid as well as Forward Collision Alert find their way on to a 2.2 litre-equipped model for the first time.

Specific variant equipment includes WildTrak premium fabric with leather insert upholstery, complete with orange stitching. The contrast stitching is also found on the steering wheel, gear lever gaiter and dashboard.

Other dedicated items include a Wildtrak graphics package and dark metallic grey exterior elements, with grille and bumper extension, wing mirrors, side air vents, door handles, bed rails and tail light internals all finished in the colour scheme. The grey also helps dress the 18-inch two-tone WildTrak specific alloys, which are wrapped with 265/60 profile rubbers.

Standard equipment includes automatic dual-zone air-conditioning, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a cooled console box and a 240-volt inverter power socket for charging laptops and the like. The 2.2L WildTrak also comes equipped with a six-speaker SYNC 3 infotainment system, which made its local debut on the 3.2L WildTrak back in late 2016. Highlights include an eight-inch touchscreen along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

As it is on the XLT, safety kit includes ABS, EBD, ESC, brake assist, hill descent control and hill launch assist, but the 2.2L WildTrak comes equipped with six airbags (front, side and curtain) as opposed to the 2.2L XLT variants, which only feature two airbags.

The new WildTrak is powered by a 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel as seen on the XLT variants, the Puma mill offering the same 158 hp at 3,200 rpm and 385 Nm from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm in the way of output. As it is elsewhere, the unit is paired with a 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission.

Three colours are available for the model, the variant’s signature Pride Orange along with Cool White and Shadow Black, as seen here in the photos. The Ranger 2.2L WildTrak 4×4 High Rider is priced at RM 127,888 (on-the-road without insurance), with an early bird offer of two years/40,000 km free maintenance service.
