The new Huracan
Super Trofeo Evo marked its race debut. Took place on Saturday at Sepang, the circuit is home of the Malaysian Grand Prix, and hosted the first round of
the Super Trofeo Asia series this weekend.
Based on the model that debuted in 2014, the new Evo
version pulls up closer to its GT3 counterpart. Developed with Dallara, the new
aero package improves stability while decreasing drag. The result is a Monza
lap time a full second and a half quicker than the existing Super Trofeo, the
owners of which will have the option to upgrade.
The Evo’s debut coincides with the start of the 10th
consecutive season of Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo. Since the first running of
the series in Europe, the automaker calculates that 755 drivers from 59
countries have participated in 279 races held at 42 circuits in 18 countries
around the world. Together, they’ve accounted for 32,000 kilometers (nearly
20,000 miles) of racing over the course of 211 hours, consisting of 6,461 laps
with 4,155 pit stops, spending 41,000 Pirelli tires.
Those are some staggering statistics, but the Raging
Bull isn’t quitting any time soon. With the Asia series now up and running, the
European series will kick off at Monza next weekend and the North American
series at Mid Ohio on the first weekend of May (the Middle East series is held
over the winter “off-season”). Each will hold five double rounds before
culminating with the World Final event, set to be held in November at
Vallelunga.
