Mahindra plans to launch multiple new products this
fiscal year. Among them will be the Mahindra badged G4 SsangYong Rexton.
Showcased at the Auto Expo in February 2018, the Mahindra Rexton, referred to
unofficially as Mahindra XUV700 will go on sale this festive season as per
Autocar India.
While the previous generation Rexton was sold in
Indian under the SsangYong brand, the latest generation that was unveiled in
March 2017 will arrive with a Mahindra badge. It was showcased in its pre-production
form at the Auto Expo complete with a Mahindra grille. The name is yet
to be disclosed.
Mahindra will bring the G4 SsangYong Rexton only in
its 7-seat form to India. It will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that
develops 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. A 7-speed automatic transmission and a
4WD system are confirmed, but there’s no word on the availability of a 6-speed
manual transmission.
The Rexton will be imported from South Korea as a
CKD. Assembly will take place at Mahindra’s Chakan plant. According to an
earlier report, Mahindra will start importing the CKD kits in the third quarter
of this year. Autocar India reports
that Mahindra is expected to price the Rexton around INR 3-4 lakhs lower than
the segment-favourite Toyota Fortuner to entice buyers.
