Work continues on the Mercedes A-Class sedan as Carscoops spy
photographers have caught the upcoming model undergoing testing on the
Nürburgring. The entry-level sedan
follows in the footsteps of the redesigned hatchback as it adopts a familiar
front fascia with a single bar grille and CLS-inspired headlights. The styling
similarities continue further back as the sedan has an upward sweeping beltline
and subtle character lines.
The biggest change is the sedan body
style which mimics the larger C-Class. However, due to the smaller dimensions,
the car has shorter rear doors and a small trunk with an integrated spoiler.
Inside, we can expect a high-tech cabin that echoes
the new A-hatchback. As a result, drivers can expect to find a
three-spokesteering wheel, circular air vents and plenty of metallic trim. The
model should also have new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) with two
displays that measure 7- or 10.25-inches.
Engine options should also carryover from the
hatchback and include an assortment of petrol and diesel options. On the petrol
side, we can expect an A200 with a 1.33-liter four-cylinder engine producing
163 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Buyers should also be able to
order an A250 which has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 224 PS and 350 Nm of torque.
Diesel fans should have the option of a 1.4-liter
four-cylinder producing 116 PS and 260 Nm of torque. It
enables the hatchback to run from 0-100 km/h in 10.5 seconds before
hitting a top speed of 202 km/h.
Further down the road, we can expect the
Mercedes-AMG A35 with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine featuring
EQ Boost technology. This setup should enable the model to produce around 299
PS and 400 Nm of torque. There should also be an A45 with
around 400 PS.
