Unveiled today at the Commercial Vehicle show in Birmingham, England, the new
Fiesta Van does away with the rear seats and rear windows. All the better for
work duty, without the need for a larger cargo van.
Inside its three-door form, the Fiesta Van can cary
about one cubic meter (35 cubic feet) of cargo with a payload capacity of
around 500 kilograms. It has a nearly 1.3-meter long load floor covered in rubber with four tie-town hooks, a composite and
mesh bulkhead, and durable sidewalls.
The Blue Oval will offer the little panel van with a
choice of three engines. There’s a 1.1-liter inline-three rated at 85 ps, a 1.0-liter EcoBoost turbo good for 125 ps, and a
1.5-liter diesel available with either 85 ps or 120 ps. Buyers can even get it with the latest Sync 3 infotainment system and an
eight-inch touchscreen display. A full range of driver-assistance systems can
be specified as well. And there’s even a Sport model with a more
aggressive-looking treatment, 18-inch wheels, and a sportier cockpit, too.
Ford opens the order books for the new Fiesta Van
this season, and will begin delivering to customers and dealers in the fall. We
wouldn’t count on the American automaker offering it in its home market,
though. So customers in the US will just have to make do with the (relatively)
larger Transit Connect and the even bigger full-size Transit van.
