Nissan will use the 2018 Overland Expo West to
unveil a customized Nissan Armada called the Mountain Patrol. Following the
footsteps of last year’s Project Basecamp, the Mountain Patrol will be
developed with the assistance of social media fans on Facebook and Instagram.
However, they will only have a limited role in designing the model as Nissan is
asking them to help select the vinyl wrap, tires and roof-mounted tent.
Regardless, the Mountain Patrol will have plenty of
custom features as the rendering suggests the model will have rugged bumpers,
winches and a snorkel. We can also see auxiliary lights, side steps and a Rhino
Rack.
The styling changes continue out back as the Armada
has a rear-mounted spare tire carrier, jerry cans and a Hi-Lift jack. Of
course, the design hasn’t been finalized yet so the finished model could be
slightly different. Like the standard model, the Mountain Patrol will have a
5.6-liter V8 engine that develops 390 hp and 533
Nm of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission which
can be backed up by an optional four-wheel drive system.
Following its debut at Overland Expo West, the
Armada Mountain Patrol will be shown at a variety of outdoor events throughout
the year.
