BikeWale reports that the bookings for the Norton
Commando 961 have commenced. The British bike maker will sell its products
through MotoRoyale of Kinetic Group.
The booking amount varies from dealer to dealer.
Some dealers accept INR 2 lakhs for booking, while other dealers are reportedly
asking for 50% deposit, which amounts to approximately INR 12 lakhs. The bike
reportedly costs INR 23 lakhs. The bike enters the country via the CBU route
and its delivery will reportedly commence by June-end.
It was reported in
November, last year that Norton is bullish about the Indian market. The brand
has teamed up with MotoRoyale in a 49:51 joint venture respectively. The
brand’s CKD products will reportedly enter the market by the end of 2018 and
expect prices to be relatively more competitive. The bike maker will assemble
its products at Kinetic’s Ahmednagar plant.
The Norton Commando 961 Sport Mark II & Café
Racer Mark II employ an in-house-developed 961 cc parallel twin motor with air
and oil cooling. It is good for 80 PS of power at 6,500 rpm, and 90 Nm of
torque at 5,200 rpm. The powerplant works in tandem with a 5-speed
transmission. Suspension bits include 43mm Ohlins upside down forks, adjustable
for preload, compression and rebound damping. The rear employs Ohlins twin
shocks with remote reservoir – fully adjustable.
Dual 320 mm front discs and a rear 240 mm disc (220
mm for the Café Racer), both from Brembo handle the braking responsibility.
Though the bike’s rival is the Triumph Thruxton R, it is more of a niche
product considering its premium price tag.
