After becoming “an industry leader in advanced safety technology”, Volvo is now looking “redefine in-car luxury” with the new S90 Ambience Concept.

Created for the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, which kicks off in just a couple of days, the study builds upon the S90 Excellence grade, boasting three seats and a clear focus on chauffeuring. At the rear, it can sit two passengers in individual seats, treating them to plenty of visual elements projected on the roof.

Themes include Swan Lake, Scandinavian Forest, Northern Lights, Archipelago and Rain, and according to Volvo, each of them provides “a different mood scaling from relaxing to invigorating”.

Additionally, the Swedish company’s show car brings two more themes: one of them is called Freedom and is said to uplift energy and give occupants “a boost of fresh”, whereas the other, baptized Nocturnal, will help them rest.

The Volvo S90 Ambience Concept blows one of four bespoke scents into the cabin, via a portal found in the center console. Created by Byredo, these are said to be offered as an option on the S90 Excellence in China, with other markets to follow.

The final feature of the study is a premium audio system from Bowers and Wikins. It brings a surround sound experience to the cabin of the S90 and features small tweeters in the headrests.
