Volkswagen is getting ready to launch yet another
China-only product, the Tayron. It’s a mid-size SUV based on the same platform
as the Tiguan, CarNewsChina reveals, and if it looks familiar, that’s because
it’s the production version of the VW Advanced Midsize SUV. The images shared
by China’s AutoHome reveal a few styling tweaks over the show car that debuted
last week, which revolve around the headlamps and taillights, mostly.
The chrome trim and other highlights of the study
are said to be introduced on the upcoming R-Line grade. No other details are
known about it so far, but one of the images reveals the ‘380 TSI’ badge, below
the ‘Tayron’ logo. This is a clear indication that it uses a turbocharged
petrol engine, with local media reporting that it’s actually the 2.0-liter
turbo with 220 horsepower, from the larger Teramont.
The new Volkswagen Tayron should be presented
officially during the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, which kicks off on April 25 for
the press, and four days later for the public. Before the end of the year, the
SUV should go on sale locally.
Production should commence in the coming months, and
putting it together will be the FAW-Volkswagen join venture.
