When most people think of classic SUVs, images of
military vehicles and those from the ’60s tend to come to the front of the
mind. But we think that’s a shame, because there’s plenty to be had from later
on, like the ’80s, that can be every bit as enticing
when restored right. Take, for instance, this 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 by
the FJ Company.
Completely rebuilt to near-original specs, this
vintage FJ went through a complete frame-off restoration. The work included
fixing up the original 3F engine and 4-speed transmission, getting the original
A/C unit in working condition, adding an Old Man Emu suspension, swapping out
the old headlights for LEDs, putting in a premium sound system with Bluetooth
connectivity, and much more.
And the finishing touch was adding an olive green
paint job with the “four wheel drive” side stripe decals to bring out the
radical in this ’80s beast. Unfortunately, this one is spoken for, but you can
always reach out to FJ Company to get a custom retro SUV of your own.
