Ducati India has launched the 2018 Ducati Monster
821 in the country at an introductory price of INR 9.51 lakhs, ex-showroom,
pan-India. The introductory price is valid till the end of 2018.
The bookings for the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 are now
open and deliveries will start by the first week of June across all Ducati
dealerships in Delhi – NCR; Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kochi &
Kolkata. Ducati had discontinued the earlier generation Monster 821 due to the
non-compliance of BS-IV emission norms. Compared to the earlier generation
bike, the 2018 model comes with styling and mechanical changes as well.
The motorcycle features a fully redesigned tank and
tail, an all-new exhaust and headlight. The design draws inspiration from the
Monster 1200; and the Monster 821 pays homage to the legacy of the Monster 900,
which over 25 years ago revolutionised the naked motorcycle segment. Also
making its debut on the new Monster 821 is the colour TFT display with gear
indicator, and fuel level. The motorcycle is available in Ducati Yellow, Ducati
Red and Black.
Powering the 2018 Monster is an 821cc Testastretta
L-twin engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The BS-IV compliant
engine generates 108.7 PS of power at 9,250 rpm; and 86 Nm of torque at 7,750
rpm. The engine works in conjunction with a 6-speed gearbox with slipper
clutch. The Monster 821 also features the Ducati Safety Pack as standard. It
comprises of Bosch 9.1MP ABS system and Ducati Traction Control, both of which
have adjustable intervention levels. The Power Modes help adjusting the maximum
power and throttle response. Riding Modes allow easy adjustment of ABS, Ducati
Traction Control and Power Modes, letting riders have three different
personalities in their motorcycle.
Brakes include dual 320 mm discs and M4-32 monobloc
radial callipers up front. The rear gets 245 mm disc. The motorcycle rides on
43 mm upside down front fork and a rear monoshock with spring preload
adjustment. The wheels are shod with a Pirelli Diablo Rosso III 120/70 tyre on
the front and 180/55 on the rear. The Kawasaki Z900 is one of the primary
rivals of this motorcycle.
