After reshaping their compact range with the
introduction of the new-gen A-Class, Mercedes-Benz now has its eyes on the
larger C-Class lineup. Currently in development, the next generation of the
brand’s BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 rival won’t get as many members as its smaller
siblings (GLA, GLB, A-Class Hatch, Sedan, CLA, B-Class and probably others).
However, there have been talks about a possible C-Class All-Terrain, brought
forward by AutoBild, although no source has been provided.
Believed to debut in 2022, one year after the
all-new C-Class Sedan is said to be presented, the model will build on the
success of the E-Class All-Terrain, albeit in a smaller package.
Poised to address the Audi A4 Allroad problem, such
a version of the C-Class will arrive in a station wagon body style, with a
jacked up suspension and plastic cladding all around, if it gets approved for
production that is. And if given the green light, then it will use some of the
engines found in the next-gen C-Class, whose output will be channeled to both
axles via the 4Matic AWD system.
2022 is also the year when the upcoming
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate is expected to be unveiled, likely preceding the
rumored rugged derivative. It will then be joined by the Coupe variant, whereas
the Cabriolet could arrive in 2023.
