There’s a possibility the successor to the Bentley
Mulsanne will feature an all-electric powertrain. Autocar reports that the
current Mulsanne still has a couple years of life before it is killed off and
replaced after more than a decade on the market. When the sedan’s successor
arrives, it will be forced to face off against a plethora of luxurious electric
vehicles available to customers.
While some consumers remain resistant to performance vehicles
adopting electric powertrains, there are very few downsides for a luxury car
like the Mulsanne relying solely on batteries and electric motors. Not only do
such systems emit very little noise, perfect for an expensive Bentley, they
also provide huge amounts of torque which could easily usher around a heavy
sedan at more-than-adequate speeds.
As logical as an all-electric Bentley Mulsanne
successor might be, it is important to point out that the automaker has yet to
even decide what exactly will replace the Mulsanne. One obvious choice would be
to create a like-for-like replacement but Bentley could also elect to create
something a little more outlandish, perhaps more akin to the upcoming
all-electric Aston Martin Lagonda.
