The California Bicycle Factory has designed a new affordable electric bike which it has this month launched by a Kickstarter to raise the required funds it needs to make the jump into production. The electric bike is equipped with a powerful 36V 350W motor and can be fitted with batteries to offer a range up to 80 miles. 

The electric bike is now available to early bird backers priced at US$ 599 or £ 440 and offers a 8.7 amp hour Panasonic battery together with 26 x 19 inch alloy frame. Range and battery options include :
  • With the use of 36V 8.7 Ah lithium-ion battery the range can fluctuate up to 20 miles for throttle only and up to 40 miles for using electric pedal assist.
  • 36V 12.8 Ah lithium-ion battery increase the range up to 30 miles for throttle only and up to 55 miles for using electric pedal assist.
  • 36V 17.5 Ah lithium-ion battery increase the range up to 60 miles for throttle only and up to 80 miles for using electric pedal assist.

The design also provides easy accessible Pedal assist control on the left and throttle control on the right, together with a handy LCD screen to provide feedback on speed, distance and battery power remaining.
