Driving the Nürburgring is a bucket-list item for
any serious automotive enthusiast. But most of us don’t have the chops to
handle the vaunted circuit, with its 73 turns and 13 miles (20.83 kilometers)
of twisting tarmac. Riding in a “Ring Taxi,” then, could be just the thing.
And Jaguar has two of its most powerful and capable
performance machines deployed, just for the purpose. The latest additions to
the fleet are none other than the F-Type SVR and XJR575. Both are motivated by
Coventry’s celebrated 5.0-liter supercharged V8, kicking out 575 Hp and 700 Nm of torque.
That’s enough to send the top F-Type rocketing to 60
miles per hour in 3.5 seconds (or 3.7 to 100 km/h). The larger, heavier XJR
takes 4.2 seconds to hit that same 60-mile mark, making it the fastest, most
powerful iteration of Jaguar’s big sedan.
Having driven the Nordschleife in the F-Type and
rode shotgun in the XJR ring taxi around the same, this writer can tell you
it’s the experience of a lifetime. And you can book either for € 199 (US$ 236) per
lap. And it comes with an HD video recording to document (and relive) the ride.
