The latest Mitsubishi Outlander’s official launch in
India will take place soon this month. Mitsubishi won’t offer it here with a
diesel engine. Instead, the company is planning to launch the Mitsubishi
Outlander PHEV in our market later, as per a new report from Autocar India.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the world’s first
plug-in hybrid SUV when it was released in 2013. It is one of the best-selling
plug-in hybrid vehicles in many markets. It was given a mid-cycle refresh back
in March this year. As of last month, Mitsubishi has sold more than 144,000
units of the plug-in hybrid SUV globally.
The Outlander PHEV’s powertrain comprises a
four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors (one at the front and one at the
rear), a generator that transforms the engine power into electricity, front
power drive unit, rear electric motor control unit and a battery placed under
the floor. The pre-facelift model’s powertrain offers a pure electric range
(JC08 test cycle) of 60.8 km.
The new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV features the new
PHEV 2.0 plug-in hybrid powertrain. In place of the 4B11 2.0-litre MIVEC petrol
engine, there’s a new 2.4-litre MIVEC petrol engine now. The new engine allows
for higher torque, smoother operation, and overall higher efficiency. The new model’s 4WD system comes with two more modes
in addition to Normal and 4WD Lock: Sport and Snow.
While the Mitsubishi Outlander is available in
5-seat and 7-seat versions, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is available in only
5-seat version. Mitsubishi will import it to India from the Okazaki Plant
located in Japan. The plug-in hybrid variant may cost no less than INR 35 lakh
(ex-showroom).
