Kicking off the Nissan Terra’s promotional
activities in the Philippines, Nissan showcased it in a camouflaged avatar at
the 2018 Trans Sport Show last week.
The Nissan Terra was first introduced in China,
where the market launch took place just last month. The new frame-based SUV is
essentially a PPV based on the third generation Nissan Navara. The Nissan Terra falls in the same class as the Ford
Everest (Ford Endeavour), Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Chevrolet
Trailblazer and Isuzu MU-X. It is a 5-seat mid-size SUV, but maybe that’s the case only for
China. In other markets, Nissan could offer an additional row of seats to make
it a 7-seat SUV, at least optionally.
In China, the Nissan Terra is powered by the QR25
2.5-litre petrol engine that develops 184 PS at 6,000 rpm and 251 Nm
of torque at 4,000 rpm. 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic are the
transmission choices. A 4WD system is optional. In other markets, the company
may offer the diesel engines from the Nissan Navara. The one-tonne pickup truck
is available with the YS23DDT 2.3L, YS23DDTT 2.3L and YD25DDTi 2.5L diesel
engines.
The Nissan Terra is currently produced only in
China. Production bases for the Philippines and other markets are still
unknown. Earlier it was expected that the new SUV will roll off the assembly
line in Samutprakarn, Thailand, where the Nissan Navara is also made. Thailand
and Indonesia are also in the queue for the new frame SUV.
