Uniti, the Swedish firm has crowdsourced the necessary funds to build a working prototype
of a battery-powered urban car called the Uniti One, and they recently unveiled
it for web surfers to see.
With an interesting exterior design that has
something futuristic in it, the small EV has a clean look all around, a
panoramic windscreen with slim A pillars and can sit two people in tandem
inside, just like a Renault Twizy.
However, unlike the French EV, the Uniti One
actually has a more premium interior, real doors and windows, and a starting
price of just under € 19,900 (US$ 23,490). Clicking on the reservation
button reveals a different MSRP of € 14,900 (US$ 17,588), and the company is also
taking pre-orders, for € 149 (US$ 176), said to be “refundable at any time”.
The vehicle is controllable via a joystick-like steering
wheel, with a large portrait-oriented tablet in the middle, in prototype form
at least, and has ambient lighting.
Scrolling through their website brings forward a
targeted range of up to 300 km, thanks to a 22kWh battery that’s said to
take 3 hours and 10 minutes to fully charge using a home fast charging kit.
It’s also compatible with DC charging, promising a range of 200 km in
just 30 minutes.
Described as “suitable for both city and highway
driving”, with a “unique and contemporary approach to safety, sustainability
and user experience”, the Uniti One has a top speed of up to 130 km/h and can travel from 0 to 80 km/h in 3.5 seconds, in ‘Sports’mode.
The electric startup talks about a “smart heads-up
display” with “the world’s largest and most advanced interactive HUD”, plus
human-machine interaction, electronic steering, as well as a 4-seat option.
