Volkswagen had a bit of a subdued presence at Wörtherseethis year but the company is
making a big splash at the SOWO European Experience in Georgia.
Currently underway, this year’s event will feature
four new Volkswagen concepts which draw inspiration from the “diverse
design tastes of Volkswagen enthusiasts.” Each one is unique but many feature
fluorescent yellow accents.
Golf R
Abstract concept
The first concept is called the Golf R Abstract and it features a camouflage wrap and
20-inch wheels from ABT Sportsline. The model has also been equipped with new
side skirts, sport springs and a stainless steel four-tailpipe exhaust system
with matte black chrome tips.
Jetta R-Line
SoCal concept
Volkswagen has a lot riding on the all-new Jetta so it comes as little surprise that the
company is using the event to showcase the redesigned model. Featuring a
heritage-inspired design, the Jetta R-Line SoCal concept has fluorescent yellow
mirror caps, a gloss black roof and 19-inch body-color wheels. Designers also
installed retro graphics and a prototype KW coilover suspension which reduces
the ride height by 76 mm.
Arteon R-Line
Highlight concept
Speaking of new models, the Arteon will arrive in the United States later this
year and the company is promoting it with the Arteon R-Line Highlight concept.
Changes are limited but include a fluorescent yellow wrap, 20-inch Vossen
wheels and a prototype coilover suspension which lowers the ride height by
nearly 76 mm.
Tiguan R-Line
Aero concept
The second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is off to a slow start in the United States
and the company is hoping to draw attention to the model with the Tiguan R-Line
Aero concept. Riding incredibly low to the ground, the concept has been
equipped with an Air Lift Performance air management system with performance
series front and rear struts. This lowers the vehicle by up to 122 mm.
Besides the reduced ride height, the crossover has
an eye-catching wrap and a matching Thule cargo box. Last but not least, the
concept has been outfitted with 20-inch monoblock wheels featuring a matte
black powder-coated finish.
Atlas Tanner
Foust SEMA concept
Besides the four new concepts, Volkswagen will
display a customized Atlas that made with the assistance of Tanner Foust.
The concept originally debuted at SEMA last year and it features a two-tone
exterior with rugged fender flares, a beefier front bumper and auxiliary
lighting units. The crossover also boasts a ventilated hood, a roof rack and
off-road tires.
Following their debut at SOWO, the concepts will
embark on a tour which will take them to enthusiast shows in California,
Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
