Australia has welcomed the Volvo XC40, with the
compact SUV being offered with D4 diesel and T5 petrol engines, along with
Momentum and R-Design trims. There’s also limited-run Launch Edition versions
available, which comes with additional kit on top of the variant it is based
on. Prices start from AUD 47,990 up to AUD 59,740.
Both turbocharged four-cylinder engines are paired
with an AW TG-81SC eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as
standard. In the case of the T5, the mill makes 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque,
whereas the D4 churns out 190 hp and 400 Nm.
Standard equipment on the Momentum includes 18-inch
alloy wheels, LED headlamps with “Thor’s Hammer” DRLs, fabric upholstery,
powered driver’s seat with lumbar support, a 12.3-inch digital display
instrument cluster, eight-speaker audio system, 9-inch Sensus touchscreen
infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support, as well as a
wireless phone charger.
The R-Design piles on a styling pack, which consists
of a gloss black grille, double integrated tailpipes, 20-inch diamond-cut black
alloy wheels, two-tone paintjob, R-Design badging, R-Design Nubuck
textile/Nappa leather upholstery with black headliner, sports chassis, R-Design
steering wheel with paddle shifters and an R-Design gear lever.
Other add-ons with the R-Design include a powered
seat for the front passenger, Active Bending Lights, keyless entry, an electric
tailgate with gesture opening function, and an enhanced interior ambient
lighting system.
In total, there will be four variants: T5 Momentum,
T5 R-Design, D4 Momentum and D4 R-Design, but Launch Edition versions will be
offered in limited numbers for each of them. For Momentum Launch Edition cars,
a sunroof, LED headlamps with Active Bending Lights, adaptive cruise control
with Pilot Assist, Harman Kardon sound system and heated front seats are added
on top of what is available.
The kit list also includes 19-inch five-spoke
diamond-cut alloys, 360-degree camera, manual front-seat cushion extension,
Park Assist Pilot, keyless entry, an electric tailgate, electric seat
adjustment for the front passenger, and leather upholstery.
As for the R-Design Launch Edition, it too gets a
sunroof, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist, Park
Assist Pilot, 360-degree camera system and a Harman Kardon sound system. Some
of these items are available as an option for the standard non-Launch Edition
XC40s.
