Italian for “shield,” the Targa trim for the Porsche 911 first drew its inspiration from the Targa Florio road race in Sicily where Porsche managed to score almost a dozen victories through 1973. From here, Porsche decided to capitalize on this reputation with the release of a Targa version of their 911 S in late 1966.

Seen here, this 1971 production model boasts the distinctive stainless steel roll-over bar the Targa was known for as well as a repainted exterior to help breathe new life into its original paint job.

Under the hood is also a 2.2-liter flat six-cylinder engine, managed via a five-speed manual transmission while a factory installed air conditioning keeps things cool when dropping the top just isn’t an option. It’s yet another surefire hit from the upcoming Ft. Lauderdale auction where she’s expected to fetch upwards of the US$ 150K.
