The BMW lineup is receiving a host of minor updates this summer including a new special edition, more eco-friendly engines and several new options.

Starting with the engines, BMW says all petrol and plug-in hybrid models in Germany will be outfitted with a particulate filter starting in July. The change will enable the cars to comply with Euro 6d-TEMP standards.

The X3 M40d will be launching soon with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 326 PS and 680 Nm of torque. It enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

In August, the company will launch the X4 xDrive30d which features a tamer 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque. Thanks to all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, the crossover will run from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.

Speaking of the eight-speed automatic, the transmission will become standard on a handful of models starting in July. Among the cars receiving the gearbox are the 120i, M140i, eight versions of the 3-Series, six versions of the 4-Series as well as the 520d Sedan and Touring.

Moving on, BMW introduced the new 1-Series Metropolitan Edition which features additional equipment “specifically designed to enhance comfort and driving pleasure in urban traffic.” Key features include GPS navigation, Park Distance Control and Speed Limit Info. The model also adds Comfort Access, a rear view camera and an “instrument cluster with extended features.”

The 5-Sedan Sedan and Touring will be offered with a Frozen Dark Silver metallic exterior, while the M5 gains a new Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic paint job. Mainstream 5-Series models as well as the 6-Series Gran Turismo can also be ordered with new electroplated interior accents which have an “exclusive sheen.”

7-Series customers aren’t missing out on the fun as BMW Individual composition models will offer several new exterior colors. The new shades go along with the model’s Merino leather interior which boasts special trim and an elegant roof liner.

The recently launched i8 Roadster will also be offered with a new aerodynamic styling package. It includes a front splitter and a rear spoiler.

Lastly, BMW i Performance models – including everything from the 225xe iPerformance to the i8 – will come with connected features which will enables owners to search for charging stations and monitor their vehicle from a smartphone.
