Information regarding the new fourth generation
Suzuki Jimny has been coming in thick and fast since the start of the month.
The company has confirmed the presence of a 1.5 L petrol engine, and as per a
new report from Autocar India, this is the same unit that will be powering the
2018 Maruti Ciaz facelift.
The K15B petrol engine that displaces 1,462 cc was
introduced on the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga currently on sale in Indonesia. It makes 104.7 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm in the case of
the Ertiga. The Suzuki Jimny Sierra, the variant that gets this particular
engine in the Japanese market, is likely to have similar power and torque outputs.
Like the Indonesia-spec Ertiga, the Jimny equipped with this 1.5 L petrol
engine will pair with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque
converter automatic.
The other engine option of the JDM-spec Suzuki Jimny
will be a 660 cc turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol unit. As reported this month,
the engine will produce 64 PS at 6,000 rpm and 95 Nm at 3,000 rpm. It will be
offered with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic. Both
the Jimny and the Jimny Sierra will get part-time 4x4 with low range transfer
gear.
The launch of the new Jimny in Japan takes place
next month. While it has also been listed on the global website, the company is
yet to announce the global rollout plan of the 2019 Suzuki Jimny. The report
from Autocar states that Suzuki CEO Toshihiro Suzuki has committed that all
products, barring JDM Kei cars, will be launched in India. The Suzuki Jimny may
well be a part of MSIL's plans for the Indian market once immediate priorities
are finished.
