The new Chevrolet Blazer will be a
smaller crossover when compared to its predecessor that went out of production
in 2005. Chevrolet aims to slot it between the compact
Equinox and the Traverse, so expect the new Blazer to have the footprint of the
Cadillac XT5.
The company made sure not to reveal any design cues
of the new Blazer, judging from the spy shots. The test car is pretty much
covered from head to toe, using both the classic wrap and the extra covers that
appear to hide fake extensions underneath in order to keep the Blazer’s design a secret.
Chevrolet will use the same architecture with the
current GMC Acadia for the new Blazer, filling a very important gap in its
range as it will have now a model to rival models like the Ford Edge and the
Nissan Murano. The new Chevrolet Blazer is expected to take
advantage of the same weight saving measures seen in the GMC Acadia. Recent
reports suggest that Chevrolet’s upcoming SUV will be available only in a
five-seat configuration.
The engine range will probably include a pair of petrol
units: an entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a more powerful 310 hp
3.6-liter V6. Both engines will be offered with either front- and all-wheel
drive and will be paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet is
said to reveal the new Blazer at the end of this year, most likely at the LA
Auto Show or at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
