Audi is gearing up for the market launch of the
E-Tron, the first battery-electric SUV in the history of the brand, and the
Germans just announced more solutions that will help owners adopt the electric
car lifestyle more easily. More specifically, Audi will offer E-tron customers
a pair of intelligent solutions to connect their electric vehicle with their
homes.
The standard compact charging system will feature
charging with an output of up to 11kW. Audi will also offer an optional charging
system with double the output (22kW), for which the E-Tron will be equipped
with a second, optional charger. The system will be able to connect to the grid
via the home’s WiFi and offer ‘intelligent charging functions’ in conjunction
with a home energy management system.
By combining a charging system with a suitably
equipped home energy management system, customers will be able to use variable
electricity tariffs to charge their Audi E-Tron. If the home is fitted with a
photo-voltaic system, the charging process can be optimized to prefer the
electricity generated by the system for charging their vehicle.
The new Audi E-Tron will be unveiled in its final
production form on August 30th, offering a total driving range of 400 km in the European WLTP cycle. The electric SUV is expected to be powered
by a pair of electric motors and a 95kWh battery pack. Audi won’t reveal just
yet how much grunt will be on offer, but a figure around the 400 hp mark is
expected.
