The third-gen BMW X3 range was expanded with the
introduction of a new variant yesterday - BMW X3 M40d. The BMW X3 M40d is the
diesel engine-powered alternative to the BMW X3 M40i. The BMW X3 M40d will
reach first markets in July this year.
The all-new BMW X3 M40d sports the B57 3.0-litre
turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel engine that delivers a maximum power of 326 PS and a maximum torque of 680 Nm available from as low as 1,750
rpm. The 8-speed Steptronic sports automatic transmission and the xDrive
permanent all-wheel-drive system are included as standard in the M40d variant.
In this configuration, the BMW X3 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. This
means that the X3 M40d is only tenth of a second slower than the X3M40i. The
fuel consumption rating varies from 6.5-6.4 l/100 km (15.38-15.63 km/l).
Appearance wise, the BMW X3 M40d is no different
from the BMW X3 M40i. It features M Performance-specific design details, which
include M Aerodynamics package with Cerium Grey-finish design elements as
standard. Also part of the standard specification, are 20-inch alloy wheels,
flap-controlled M Sport exhaust system with Black Chrome tailpipe embellishers,
M Sport Suspension with M Performance-specific tuning, M Sport brakes and variable
sport steering.
