In 2020, Mercedes-Benz will
start deliveries of its first all-electric C-segment car. Previewed by the
Concept EQA last year, it is currently under development and, to help promote
it, the German marque took the fully-functional concept to the rustic
countryside of Sicily.
Unlike many concept cars, the EQA actually runs and
its futuristic design juxtaposes the rugged coastline and classic architecture
found throughout the island. Even if you’re not a fan of electric vehicles,
it’s hard to deny that Merc’s concept has an appealing exterior design that
should be more than enough to attract customers.
Mercedes-Benz has yet to finalize powertrain
specifications for the production car, but the concept boasted more than 270 hp
and came with a permanent all-wheel drive system and a 60 kWh battery offering
a range of roughly 400 km.
Last month, Mercedes held a meeting with French
President Emmanuel Macron and confirmed that the EQA will be built at its plant
in Hambach. The EQA will be the second vehicle to launch under the EQ label,
following in the footsteps of the EQC electric crossover. By 2022, more than
eight more vehicles will be added to the EQ family, including Smart models and
large SUVs.
