Mercedes-Maybach took us by surprise last month when
they unveiled the Ultimate Luxury Concept. Essentially Mercedes-Maybach’s first
stab on an SUV for its expanding lineup, it falls very far from being just a
luxed-up GL, as some speculated, taking a
shape of its own.
Fueled by negative reactions, rendering
artists modified its styling, making it look more like an SUV and less like a
high-riding sedan. And now we have yet another digital interpretation of the
show car, which steps out of the ordinary.
Sketched by Dongwon Lee, the three-door SUV was
inspired by the Maybach S-Class, Vision 6 study and GLE Coupe. The result is a
posh model with Maybach’s gigantic grille sitting at the front, large air
intakes in the front bumper, widened fenders, sweptback windscreen, sloping
roofline and generously-sized wheels.
At the rear, the double-bubble roof is visible, as
is the separated windshield, humongous diffuser and double light strip that
spans across its width. The artist’s work doesn’t include the interior, but
hypothetically speaking, such a vehicle would likely have 2+2 seats, for the
ultimate grand tourer experience.
In the near future, Mercedes-Maybach will launch
their first production SUV to challenge the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and
Rolls-Royce Cullinan. We just hope that the model will be more SUV than a sedan
on stilts.
